HESLEP, Lonnie Morgan “Scotty” 1924 to 2016 Peacefully, early Thursday morning, Scotty was called home to be with his Lord. Scotty is survived by Joyce (nee Chaney), his loving wife of 64 years; daughter Cathryn (Doug McLaughlin); son Cameron (Suzanne); granddaughter Kelsey; grandsons: Conrad, Jordan (Tammy), Justin (Ladonna) and Marc, as well as two great-grandsons: Martin and Henry and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol (Roland) Majeau. Scotty was born in Edmonton, one of six children of Robert and Mary Heslep. He attended Highlands School and joined the Canadian Army (South Alberta Regiment) during World War II. When one thinks of Scotty’s life, the word “service” immediately comes to mind and his service overseas in the liberation of Holland and his thirty-five year career with Canada Post are examples of this. The theme of helping others is constant through his 92 years, whether his family, his many friends and acquaintances, his church or his country is concerned. He was a devout Christian, whose devotion to the Lord was his daily passion and his gift to those he leaves behind. His service to his church and the church community, at Central Pentecostal Tabernacle and, later, West Edmonton Christian Assembly, spanned the gamut of lay leadership, from picking up children for Sunday School to governance on the church board. No task was too large or too small, too weighty or too trifling. A man who always saw the positive side and even the humorous side of life, famous for his love of automobiles of all vintages, Scotty was a generous caring gentleman, a wise counsellor and the centre and the inspiration for his family. He left his mark on people everywhere and of every generation, from the Safeway check-out line to the Provincial Legislature. He will be deeply missed. Scotty’s family would like to thank the personnel of ‘7E’ at the Misericordia Hospital and the Jubilee Lodge for their kindnesses during his final illness. Friends may attend a Visitation at Serenity Funeral Service, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, the evening of Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Scotty’s Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm, at West Edmonton Christian Assembly, 6315 – 199 Street NW Edmonton, AB.
